The WeMed Award 2026: A Catalyst for Green and Social Innovation in the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranean basin is more than a crossroads of cultures and commerce—it is a living ecosystem facing unprecedented environmental pressures. From rising sea levels to resource scarcity, the challenges are immense. Yet, within these challenges lie extraordinary opportunities for innovation.

Today, we are proud to announce the opening of nominations for the WeMed Award 2026, a prestigious initiative designed to identify, celebrate, and accelerate the sustainable businesses that are reshaping the region’s economic future.

If you are an early or growth-stage enterprise operating at the intersection of green and social innovation, this is your moment to step into the spotlight.

What is the WeMed Award?

Established by MedWaves, the WeMed Award serves as a regional platform to recognize enterprises that are leading the transition toward green, blue, and circular economy models. Unlike traditional awards that focus on a single product or initiative, the WeMed Award takes a holistic approach—evaluating the overall circularity of your business model and your contribution to sustainable consumption and production.

This is not merely a competition. It is a movement to inspire a broader shift toward regenerative practices across the Mediterranean and beyond. The award brings visibility to the changemakers who prove that economic growth and environmental stewardship can—and must—go hand in hand.

What’s at Stake?

The 2026 edition offers a total of €40,000 in cash prizes, distributed as follows:

  • €20,000 for the winning early-stage enterprise
  • €20,000 for the winning growth-stage enterprise

This financial support is designed to help winners scale their impact, refine their business models, and deepen their contribution to the region’s sustainable transformation. What Are the Judges Looking For?

The evaluation process for the WeMed Award is rigorous and forward-looking. Assessment emphasizes:

  1. Holistic Circularity: Your entire business model, not just a single product or practice, must demonstrate circular principles—reducing waste, extending product lifecycles, and regenerating natural systems.
  2. Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Special attention is given to SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), but the award also values contributions to other goals such as climate action, decent work, and reduced inequalities.
  3. Potential to Inspire and Scale: The award seeks enterprises with the capacity to serve as role models, influencing peers and policymakers to adopt sustainable practices throughout the Mediterranean region.
  4. Social Innovation: Beyond environmental impact, your business should demonstrate a commitment to social equity, community engagement, and inclusive growth.

Why Now?

The Mediterranean is at a tipping point. The old models of extraction and consumption are no longer viable—for the planet or for the people who depend on its resources. The WeMed Award exists to accelerate the transition to a future where businesses are engines of regeneration.

By nominating your company—or a company you admire—you are contributing to a regional shift that prioritizes people and planet alongside profit.

“The WeMed Award is not just about recognition; it is about amplifying solutions that work. We believe that the businesses of tomorrow are being built today, in the Mediterranean, by innovators who understand that sustainability is the only viable path forward.” — MedWaves
