The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has opened nominations for the prestigious OPEC Award for Research 2026. This award recognizes outstanding individual researchers whose work has significantly advanced knowledge and understanding of the petroleum industry and oil-related issues. Instituted in 2004, the Award is conferred by the President of the OPEC Conference on the occasion of the OPEC International Seminar.

About the Award

The OPEC Award for Research honours individuals who have made outstanding contributions to enhancing knowledge of the petroleum industry and oil-related issues. The award includes a financial prize, with past awards ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, along with a certificate and trophy presented at a formal ceremony in Vienna, Austria.

The award is conferred approximately every two years, with the next presentation scheduled for the upcoming OPEC International Seminar.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the OPEC Award for Research, the nominee must meet the following criteria:

• Be well-known in the energy industry and/or academia
• Have consistently maintained high achievement levels over many years, including a substantial record of publications
• Have shown dedication to research and analysis of important oil-related issues
• Have contributed to an improved understanding of key determinants that support oil market stability
• Have played a role in enhancing dialogue between producers and consumers
• Have demonstrated a high level of objectivity and integrity in their work
• Have consistently presented a critical, yet impartial view on oil-related issues
• Have furthered knowledge by encouraging and promoting young researchers within OPEC Member Countries and the developing world
• Have demonstrated innovative thinking throughout their career

How to Nominate

Individuals, organizations, and institutions are invited to nominate qualified candidates. The nomination package must include the following:

1. A completed nomination form (available for download at www.opec.org)
2. A 500-word biography of the candidate
3. A portrait photo of the candidate
4. A list of the candidate’s publications
