Up to $10,000 Available: Apply for the Jack Kimmel International Grant Program

The TREE Fund, in partnership with the Canadian TREE Fund, is now accepting applications for the Jack Kimmel International Grant Program. This grant honors the late Jack Kimmel, former Director of Parks for the City of Toronto and a 46-year leader in the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), and provides essential funding for arboriculture and urban forestry researchers around the world .

Who Should Apply

This grant is available to researchers working primarily outside of the United States. Projects are expected to be completed within one to two years, with a maximum award of $10,000.

2026 Priority Focus Areas: 

  • Arboriculture: Theory and Practice (pruning, fertilization, climbing, etc.)
  • Tree Health
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation (decay and structural integrity)

The grant does NOT fund: 

  • Grants to individuals
  • Municipal tree surveys or assessments
  • Tree planting programs
  • Traditional forestry, timber production, agroforestry, or natural area conservation
  • Product testing primarily for a company’s benefit

Two-Step Application Process

  1. Letter of Intent (LOI)
    • Due Date: September 1, 2026 
    • Clearly identify the Principal Investigator and their institution
    • Only approved LOIs proceed to full application
  2. Full Application
    • Opens: September 15, 2026 (by invitation only) 
    • Full Submission Due: October 15, 2026
